A Look Ahead At What’s In Store for DEX 3 Mixing Software In 2018
We’re leaving 2017 behind in our dust as we look ahead towards 2018. While we’re not going to let the proverbial cat out of the bag entirely here’s a glimpse at some of our goals for our flagship DJ mixing software in 2018.
DEX 3 in 2018
Throughout 2017 we’ve not only released a series of substantial upgrades to our best DJ software product but have prepped our code for big things moving forward. Much of these upcoming additions are largely based on user feedback — what you, the DEX 3 DJ, wants to see included in future free updates.
After the addition of the integrated Party Tyme Karaoke subscription, not surprisingly, the requests have been pilling in for additional karaoke-specific features designed to make a karaoke hosts job easier. Notably: More rotation management, singer/song history, and other karaoke features that KJs have come to rely on with karaoke only software products such as PCDJ Karaoki.
We’re already deep into development on a few of these requested items, with the first implementation set to launch sometime in January. I will go out on a limb and say right now you will be impressed — DEX 3 has rapidly morphed into the true all-in-one entertainment software solution for today’s versatile DJ/VJ/KJ and this year will further solidify that status.
Beyond karaoke, you’ll see improvements to some of the core features such as time-stretching, DJ controller support (including implementing all the latest DJ controllers released next year), browser/track management features, video mixing features, and more.
Prior users of the now defunct in-app Pulselocker music subscription should see a replacement on the horizon as well, with a few new players set to emerge that will provide a quality and commercially legal music subscription service for DJ software integration. We’re strong believers that streaming is the future for DJs (with offline caching support) so it’s a priority for us to provide a new solution DJs can truly count on.
There’s a lot more I simply can’t post about just yet as our competition is most certainly paying attention. DEX 3 has emerged as a top solution for the modern DJ already and 2018 is shaping up to be a banner year for new and exciting innovations. We owe it to you!
If you have feature requests for DEX 3 we’d love your input! Please feel free to post them in the comments section below to share with us and our user community.

Hi All,
This software has become great! Thank you Ryan and staff. My son is just getting involved playing in our club and he’s handling the videos now. Every once in a while (too many times) he’ll double plays a video, he takes it out of automix loads it and it plays again, doesn’t go back and delete it, I’ve tried. So my request would be to automatically remove from the automix side if it got loaded in manually. Another praise is thank you for cleaning up the browser side with the options to disable pulselocker and partytime, great! If new features are coming out, great again, but could you also put them in the options menu to enable them or disable them if its needed to keep the browser clean for users doing their own thing. It would be awsum for everyone wanting their setup their way. Thanks for all your teams dedication to this great product and have a Great holiday season.
Dj Tammy
Thanks for the kind words and the suggestions, Tammy! We do plan to add an option for removing a track from the sidelist when manually loaded. 🙂 Happy Holidays!
Hi Ryan, Happy holidays to you and your staff. Will the updates coming down the road, if they contain addon’s, have options to hide/not hide features like replacement for pulselocker or others. Partytime disable is a nice feature also as we don’t use it, we’re Dj’s. I agree with the others its nice we can setup dex3 browser to our user lickings?
Happy Holidays to you and yours as well, Dean!
When an option to disable a service or the like makes sense, we will include it. Just like Pulselocker and now Party Tyme.
Happy Holidays folks. Great Job! Feature requests. 1.How about couple more colors for playlists area we sorta run out of colors to choose from with all different genres/folders. 2. Make the browser area folders moveable then lockable. Have a Great Holiday season.
Paul T.
Happy Holidays, Paul! Good reasonable requests. Very much agreed on re-organizing playlists etc/folders. This is something on our to-do.
Ryan:
Been a PCDJ buyer for years and just wanted to say Thank You for all the great software and updates. Just scored the new Dex3 and plan to make good use of it.
Steven
Thanks, Steven! Happy Holidays!
I would like to see a way to shuffle the folders in the “Special List”. Another feature in the “Special List” may be to add folders inside of folders. For example: A folder for Weddings. In that you can have all of the special dances in separate folders. A lot quicker when having to do something on the fly.
Good suggestions! Thanks for the input, Rich!
I currently only have the trial version of the dex 3 pro, I was looking for a program to replace the program on my DJ KJ computer. My old program was Aria and was created By PCDJ I think, but, was discontinued I really like the program however it is not compatiable with the newer programs. I’ve tried the DEX3 Pro and I only run the 2 consoles I found that they have way to many buttons. But, If I was wanting a feature which would make it more appealing in the Karaoke part It would be to save your singers on a list and also what they sang and the ability click on the singer’s box drag it to the list so, when running the program it would make it easier to access. Currently I’m awaiting my new computer to arrive then try the DEX 3 Pro on it.
Thanks, Robert! In DEX 3 you have many different skin modes (tabs). Most using DEX 3 for karaoke use the 2-deck video skin – it’s fairly simple in comparison to the default 4-deck skin. You can click the button at the very top (middle section) that has 2 squares on it and a ‘1’ and a ‘2’ to toggle to the 2-deck skin. Then click the button at the top middle section that looks like a rectangle – that will swap for the 2-deck video skin tab.
As noted in the article, singer/song history is on our to-do — it should be available in DEX 3 and LYRX soon!
Happy New year to the PCDJ team. I just purchased the DDJ SX2 to use wit my DEX 3.My question is, will /am I still able to play my tracks from the external hard drive even when the laptop is connected to the controller by its usb port?
The DDJ-SX2 is a nice choice! Just make sure you put it into the mode for all other DJ software (it’s setup for the software included initially). And yes, you can still play/access your songs on an external hard drive – obviously the DDJ-SX2 and hard drive should be kept on different USB ports.
Are you going to make text on screen easier like it used to be with PCDJ VJ, instead of layering which takes for ever, and sometimes a DJ does not have that time to input, thanks
You will have options in the future for scrolling (simple) text. Although you can easily create simple text layers now that contain ‘just text’. With the overlay features you can really get creative comparatively, however. Create image, video and text overlays for bride/groom announcements, for the birthday girl, etc. It can be well worth the extra time and effort. I’ve received many compliments regarding the overlays I’ve created in the past for anniversary parties/weddings. They can really look ‘pro’ if you have the time to design! 🙂
I just love this software,I’ve tried many others over the years and dex 3 pro for me is tips.I only wish more people like phil Morse and others would implement it in there dj training coarses
Thanks, Darren! We appreciate the kind words. We may have to throw Phil a few bucks for him to include us in his training 😉
I am a huge fan of PCDJ Karaoki! I run several shows in Colorado and recently became the state director for the KWC. I love the interface and the ability to save singer history. I was wondering if there are any plans regarding integrating a music service into the background music player. I currently use Napster, but they recently removed the ESD feature and I dislike the pause I have to deal with between songs. Are there any plans to integrate a feature like that into Karaoki? That would make my life a lot easier…
Thanks for the feedback, Jason! Depending on what new commercially viable music streaming subscription services pop up over the next few months, we may strongly consider adding support for it to the BGM Player in Karaoki. We are looking for a new music streaming partner (with offline caching) due to Pulselocker’s recent demise. Unfortunately the consumer options on the market (Spotify, Deezer, Apple Music etc) are only for home/personal use. Word is there are a few companies working to fill the gap left by Pulselocker. We’ll entertain adding a solution for streaming music to Karaoki when one of these options emerge.
