Vinyl Is Dead, Downloads Soon To Follow And Streaming Is King
John Young from Disc Jockey News gives us a brief video report from the Digital Entertainment World conference in Los Angeles CA on the state of the digital music industry.
"Vinyl is Dead"
John reports that there was virtually no discussion regarding the suggestion that vinyl is making a comeback (not a shocker), and that pay-per-downloads of music are also going the way of the caveman. Streaming is the talk of the conference, and the future of the industry as a whole.
It seems the perception that people want to own what they pay for is an old-school mentality. Rent to use is indeed the future. Let's hope some of the big players such as Spotify secure commercial licensing so DJ's (and DJ software such as ourselves) can implement professional subscription solutions.
