Update Available | Download DEX 3.16 — Now with KSR (Karaoke Singer Request) System
The official public release of DEX 3.16 is ready for download!
DEX 3.16 is here and as always, it’s a free update for DEX 3 DJs. Learn more below and download and install the update from the DEX 3 support page.
DEX 3.16 brings new karaoke-specific features and extensive optimizations and bug fixes for both the latest macOS’s (Catalina and Big Sur) and Windows 10. The two most notable feature additions that should have KJ’s crooning are the built-in KSR (Karaoke Singer Request) system that allows you to host your karaoke songbook online so your singers can view, search, and make requests from their own mobile device that are sent to the DEX 3 karaoke rotation list, and the new Karaoke Singer Scroll/News Ticker.
After extensive public testing on the PCDJ User Group, DEX 3.16 is ready for live performance. We suggest DEX 3 customers update to 3.16 today!
What’s New, Changed, and Fixed in DEX 3.16
- KSR (Karaoke Singer Request) System: A seamless integration in DEX 3, the new KSR system allows you to host your karaoke songbook online so singers can view, search, and make requests – as well as add to their own “favorites” folder and view the rotation queue. Learn more about KSR and how to configure the system in DEX 3
- Karaoke singers ticker/scroller (scrolled list of singers + custom message) with text color setting. Not only will this scroll your upcoming karaoke sings across the bottom of the screen, but you can add a custom message at the end (eg. display the ksr.pcdj.com web address for the new KSR request app, special drink offer, etc.) Example: Now Appearing: Ryan (Songname), Upcoming: Jane (Songname1), Joe (Songname2), Chris (Songname3) ** Tequila Shots $4 Until 9pm ** (This feature needs to be enabled under the karaoke settings tab in DEX 3’s options).
- Fixed issue with obscure karaoke zip files and video files causing crash on load to deck
- Extensive optimizations, Performance improvements, and fixes (especially for macOS Big Sur)
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you receive this warning “setup_dex3_3.16_mac.pkg can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software. this software needs to be updated. Ryan, is the KSR still limited to 100,000 songs now that 3.16 is official and live? I would like to switch over this year if possible, but my catalog is sitting at 367,000 at this time. If it is still limited, any idea on a timeline?
Yes, the total-song cap is set to 100K (rather, the size of the uploadable dataset is capped to what should amount to 100K in total tracks). We do not have a timeline right now on opening it up to more songs. If/when this happens, it will be a pay-for tier. That amount of data storage and bandwidth associated with it will have come with a cost. We find the vast majority of karaoke hosts have significantly less total songs than 100K. If you have nearly 400,000 songs, you would have close to 200,000 duplicates in my estimate. Just add the popular songs to the Karaoke catalog list and share those – at least that would be my recommendation. No one needs to search 400,000 karaoke songs to find one they want to sing 🙂
Thanks for the update Ryan. I’ll scan through for duplicates via CSV to see if I can get under that limit. I believe you’re right as I have 7-8 versions of most songs from various vendors. Customers definitely don’t need to select version unless they request it, so you are 100% correct on that. Looks like I’ll have some homework, but I’m now confident that I’ll be able to get under that 100,000 mark.
You’re welcome! I know it’s going to be tedious whittling things down, but ultimately it will make things easier on the singers, too.
