Tips for DJing Outdoor Events in the Summer
Summer is here and with it comes outdoor parties and events. You’ve likely booked a few already — but are you properly prepared for the 🌞 and the 🔥?
If you’re not, unpredictable weather, heat and humidity can quickly put you and your expensive DJ equipment out of commission. The event must go on and the party-goers expect expertly selected tunes and not short-circuited laptops and DJ controllers.
Our Friends at BPM Supreme (find out how you can get one-month of free music video downloads) have put together a blog post/guide titled “How to Flawlessly DJ an Outdoor Event” that all DJs booking outside events this summer should read. Subjects covered include how to properly evaluate the the event site, making sure your have the power you need, weather proofing your DJ gear, dealing with ambient noise and this handy checklist (re-post):
- Proper equipment for the event size (speakers, speaker stands, etc.)
- Pop-up tent that is water resistant/proof, will block the sun and has side walls to block wind and rain
- Power generator to plug into if necessary
- Fans or portable air conditioner
- Towels
- Bright extension cords

One of our own tips for our DEX 3 customers is to switch to the “daytime” skin under the ‘select user interface’ drop down menu under the general tab in options. A lighter, brighter interface allows you to more easily view things in a bright, outdoor environment.
