The Numark Mixtrack Platinum is the latest budget-friendly DJ controller in the Mixtrack Numark family series, and the most highly anticipated. Inexpensive as it may be, only $299 on most DJ equipment retailer websites, the Mixtrack Platinum offers a host of new advancements that even seasoned pro jocks would drool over — such as a built-in LCD display screen in each 5” capacitive (touch-sensitive) jog wheel, 4-channel mixing capabilities, Filter and gain controllers for each channel, Effects, and 24-bit audio output.  It’s no wonder why they’ve called it “Platinum”.

Without a doubt the item that jumps out of you when you fire it up and launch DEX 3 or DEX 3 RE are the Numark Mixtrack Platinum’s Hi-Res display’s found at the center of Deck A and B’s jog wheels. Our DJ controller mapping team has made full-use of the custom 1.75” displays, which offer a colorful hi-resolution display enabling you to monitor information for bpm, platter position, time remaining, pitch adjustment, and keylock. For DEX 3 (pro edition) users, you can also switch between four decks and control which deck is active while creating a “platinum mix”.

Displays on DJ controllers are making a comeback. In the early days of DJ software, DJ controllers such as the PCDJ DAC-3 used LCD displays to showcase BPM, pitch, and elapsed and remaining time. For CD jocks making the switch to digital, this provided a quick reference point they were already accustom to that didn’t require a glance at the laptop display. Over time, manufacturers dropped LCD’s to make better use of DJ controller real-estate — after all you had a comparably massive LCD display in front of you already. After mixing with the Mixtrack Platinum over a few weeks, we’re big fans of the displays — often finding ourselves referencing them more than our laptop display while perform more advanced mixing techniques – no need to ‘look up’.

The new and improved functionality and surprising deep feature-set found on the Numark Mixtrack Plantinum doesn’t end there — DJs get 16 multi-function backlit performance pads and add loops, launch samples, and control hot cues to your performance. For the knob-tweaking filter lovers (this guy!) there are dedicated filter knobs for each channel, to give you just the exact amount of tonal control you need for that perfect sound.

You also get 100mm pitch sliders that make it easy to perform fine pitch adjustments, so for the purests that avoid using SYNC it’s easy to keep two cuts in perfect beat sync without any drift.

As with the prior Mixtrack versions the Platinum is equipped with a built in pro-audio interface, with this iteration being true 24-bit. DJs can plug in headphones, a microphone and a PA system and start mixing right away with no external audio interface needed. As a bonus, the Mixtrack Platinum has two headphone jacks (¼-inch and 1/8-inch), making it easy to hand-off with fellow DJs.

The feel of the platters on the Mixtrack Platinum are also a joy to use, and we haven’t found an equal (although the Hercules JogVision platters come close) — especially in the budget controller market.

Overall we feel the Numark Mixtrack Platinum has just the right set of features and improvements that it’s makes an excellent pairing with DEX 3 and DEX 3 RE. Just like the Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 before it, it’s sure to be one of the most popular DJ controllers on the market for PCDJ users.  We see you Numark, keep doing your thing!

If you update to DEX 3 RE version the map is already included in the software for installation. You will not need to download the map file separately.
