Numark Mixtrack Platinum | $299
The Numark Mixtrack Platinum is the latest budget-friendly DJ controller in the Mixtrack Numark family series. At $299 it’s just squeezed into our list, but it’s one of the best beginner DJ controllers available.
Without question the thing that immediately jumps out of you when you fire it up DEX 3 or DEX 3 RE are the Numark Mixtrack Platinum’s Hi-Res display’s found at the center of Deck A and B’s jog wheels, which allow you to monitor bpm, platter position, time remaining, pitch adjustment, and keylock. For DEX 3 (pro edition) users, you can also switch between four decks and control which deck is active while creating a “platinum mix”. At this price with the features included it’s one of our top choices for burgeoning controllerists. O
Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 | $249
The Numark Mixtrack Pro 3 has been on the market a couple of years now and it’s longevity is proof of its popularity. Easily one of the most popular DJ controllers of 2016 for DEX 3 and DEX 3 RE users, as well as Digital DJs in general, it’s still a top beginner DJ controller choice.
The Mixtrack Pro 3 is ideal for DJs that require 2-deck control over DEX 3 (or DEX 3 RE) and need just the basic mixing controls. It’s also a fit for those mixing music videos with DEX 3, as the cross-fader is mapped to the on-screen video fader. The performance pads and their location are particularly nice and have various modes (manual loop, auto loop and sampler). The long throw pitch faders (100mm) are also a surprisingly excellent addition. The Numark Mixtrack Platinum is the new-and-improved iteration but it’s also $50 more than this tried-and-true beginner DJ controller option.
Hercules DJ Control Instinct P8 Party Pack | $129
The Hercules DJControl Instinct P8 is a highly-portable, inexpensive DJ controller designed specifically for casual DJing. A colorful, entry-level option for beginner DJs and bedroom jocks that you can throw in a backpack (and still have ample room for your laptop and cabling – this thing is tiny!) and use with DEX 3 or DEX 3 RE at a Sunday BBQ. It’s fairly rugged for the price as well – so no frets of you accidentally use it for cornhole!
Hercules DJ Control JogVision | $249
Hercules has primarily been known for entry-level beginner DJ controllers and while the Hercules DJ Control JogVision meets our criteria for price and functionality, it’s surprisingly equipped with a few pro-level features.
When you fire up the DJControl JogVision you’ll be struck by it’s feature-rich, albeit a little tight, control layout — and the digital displays found at the center of each jog wheel (much like the Numark Mixtrack Platinum) are a really nice touch. The unit easy separates itself from some of the previous workhorse Hercules DJ controllers such as the RMX and RMX2. The Hercules DJ Control JogVision is a starter DJ controller with pro-level features beginner DEX 3 and DEX 3 RE DJs should take into strong consideration.
